Locals Only is seeking, a student returning to full-time studies in the fall of 2018, preferably from a related field of interest in community relationship building, food sovereignty and sustainability or visual arts. The hired student will gain valuable experience and training not readily available in their regular academic studies. People of Indigenous (Aboriginal, First Nation, Metis, Inuit, Status/Non-Status Indian) ancestry are encouraged to apply for this position.

Locals Only Project Assistant

AKA requires a Project Assistant for Locals Only, a large-scale partnership with CHEP Good Food, to support all aspects of artistic project management. Reporting to the Project Coordinator, the Project Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Developing and administering community arts programming
  • Building relationships with local community organizations and residents
  • Carrying out Locals Only social media strategy
  • Supporting artists in the development and installation of projects

Minimum requirements

  • Student studying in fine arts or arts related context is preferred
  • Must be returning in the fall to courses
  • Trustworthy, punctual, reliable, flexible, proactive
  • Able to work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate a connection to the Indigenous/Aboriginal arts community
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of people and work in a team environment
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Knowledge of social media – Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Mailchimp etc.

This is a full-time position (30hrs/week) 12 weeks starting in May, ending in August at a rate of $12.00/hour.

This position is funded by Young Canada WorksA student is eligible if they: are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible); are legally entitled to work in Canada; will be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment; are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment; will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the program; have been a full-time student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW assignment; and intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW assignment. Note: Students with a disability are eligible for part-time work.
